Skateistan have launched their biggest campaign yet, to provide skateboarding and education programs to children in the province of Bamyan, Afghanistan.

The campaign focuses on the upcoming opening of the fifth Skateistan Skate School, following the success of their projects in Kabul, Mazar-e-Sharif, Phnom Penh and Johannesburg. Ground was broken at the incredible location in Bamyan, Central Afghanistan, in late April and the construction has continued through the summer. Up to 800 children per week will soon be able to enjoy a safe space where they can skate, play and learn. Meet some of the local Bamyan skateboarders here. Skateistan Bamyan will include classrooms, office space and a state-of-the-art indoor skatepark.

Bamyan is the heartland of the Hazara people, who were persecuted under the Taliban regime and remain disadvantaged in terms of educational and economic opportunities. Through innovative programs which combine skateboarding and creative education, Skateistan aims to help children pursue their own passions and dreams and ultimately, to become positive role models in their own communities.

The “Skate School 5: Bamyan” campaign aims to raise $300,000 to fund programs and will run until the end of December. Click here to see how you can support the campaign.
