Roll Models program for womxn skateboarders

Calling all young womxn with a passion for skateboarding and a powerful idea to get more girls on boards in Germany, Greece and the Netherlands!

Skateistan and Women Win are excited to be launching the first call for applications to join the ROLL Models program, supporting female leadership in skateboarding and inspiring the next generation of girls to be empowered, active and healthy.

The program, which was announced in October, is designed to support and create visibility for diverse womxn leaders within skateboarding and to fund the projects they’ve designed so that the next generation of girls can build confidence, community, and life skills on and off their skateboards.

The two organizations are currently seeking applications from young womxn (ages 18-30) who have an idea for a project that will use skateboarding to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of girls (ages 5-18) and promote gender equity. The ROLL Models program is a unique opportunity for womxn with a passion for skateboarding in Germany, Greece and the Netherlands to connect with and support each other. The deadline for applications is 14 February.

Selected ROLL Models candidates will receive:
– A place at the ROLL Models Leadership Camp in Berlin
– Eligibility to receive a grant up to €3000 to fund their idea
– Support and guidance from Skateistan and Women Win

A total of 25 young women will be selected to attend a one-week ROLL Models Leadership Camp, where they will take part in leadership and skateboarding workshops, develop their project ideas, and connect with other ROLL Models from around Europe. The camp will take place in Berlin, Germany, in May 2020. All camp participants will then have a chance to apply for a grant towards their project, as well as ongoing guidance from Skateistan and Women Win if their project is selected. Approximately €35,000 in grants will be awarded to the selected ROLL Models in 2020.

Rhianon Bader, Goodpush Manager at Skateistan, said: “We’re super excited to host the first all-womxn event dedicated to skateboarding-for-good and hope that this helps to grow their support network and increase the number of girls who have a passion for skateboarding.”
