On Sunday we celebrated 3 years of photo shows with our 4th exhibition, back on the Gold Coast where it all began. Yeah Girl: Homecoming was one for the books!
Hanging on the walls of the pop-up gallery at HOTA were photos from every Yeah Girl photographer to date. Each photo was up for auction with all money raised donated to Skateistan to support their skateboarding and educational programs in Afghanistan, Cambodia and South Africa. Thank you to everyone who placed a bid and supported such a good cause!
Up on the big screen we showed films by The Skate Witches as well as Adelaide Norris’ latest creation Appointment. A very popular addition to the exhibition was the Look Back Library pop-up with magazines featuring ladies of shred from the 60s until now. The collection included a signed 1965 issue of Life Magazine with Patti McGee gracing the cover, issues of the OG women’s skate mag Check It Out, Thrasher’s first ever female cover featuring Cara-Beth Burnside and more recent cover’s with Lizzie Armanto.
Yeah Girl: Homecoming was part of the Concrete Culture program at HOTA, which also included an open skate and best trick jam just outside the exhibition space. Our friends at Girls Skate Gold Coast and Girls Skate Brisbane were there on the day with a chill out zone and free art workshop.
Shout out to HOTA for making this exhibition possible and to everyone that came to check it out!
