Tampa Pro went down over the weekend and for the first time ever (… finally), the contest included a Women’s Open. Here’s the wrap up!
Now in its 26th year, Tampa Pro finally includes a dedicated women’s contest! And while 26 years is a long time to wait for a women’s contest, it’s better late than never… right? To the credit of Skatepark of Tampa, they have been letting women skate for free for a long time. The prize money still leaves plenty of room for improvement though with women’s first place taking home $2,500 compared to the men’s $10,000 first place purse. Two steps forward, one step back.
After making it through the qualifiers on Friday, Samarria Brevard, Yumeka Oda, Hina Maeda, Margielyn Didal, Gabriela Mazetto and Ana Rendon hit the park on Sunday for the finals. Hina Maeda secured first place with her kick flip 50-50 180 out. Thirteen year old Yumeka Oda followed in second place and Margielyn Didal in third.
