If you were to drift off into a day dream about skateboarding around NYC on a perfect summer day, it would probably look a lot like this.
Filmed entirely on Super 8, “Free Style” is a short film featuring Rachelle Vinberg by New York based photographer and filmmaker, Brad Gregory.
Brad first met Rachelle when they were both skating at Fat Kid park in Brooklyn. When Brad started experimenting more with shooting Super 8 film they reconnected and hit the streets together. “Everywhere we shot was totally random. I met up with her and her boyfriend really early on a Saturday morning near the south end of The High Line and we just cruised around the city stopping at some random spots and shooting all the while in between.”
Brad commented, “I’ve always thought people that skate with that more expressive improvisational style are exciting to watch as you never know what they are going to do next. That’s how Rachelle skates… with this great flowy style. It’s rad!”
No stranger to being in front of the camera, Rachelle played the lead roll in the recent Skate Kitchen movie, which was inspired by, and took its name from, the Skate Kitchen crew that Rachelle rolls with in New York. Off the back of this, you’ll also be seeing Rachelle in the new skateboarding comedy series “Betty” coming soon to HBO.
