On Sunday we celebrated the world premiere of the documentary Footnote: A Yeah Girl Retrospective. Here’s what went down!

We rolled out the red carpet for the world premiere of Footnote, a film celebrating ten years of Yeah Girl and looking back at the evolution of women’s and gender-diverse skateboarding over the last decade.

It’s impossible to cover ten years of gender-diverse skateboarding in a short documentary so we continued the conversation with a panel featuring Poppy Olsen, Dr Indigo Willing and Tora Waldren, moderated by Sarah Huston. We spoke about Poppy’s experience skating in the Olympics, how the industry and culture have shifted over the last decade, the importance of skate shops in keeping the community connected and the culture alive (including a nod to Mariah Davenport’s article on the topic), Indigo’s research into Queensland’s skate history, and much more.

Thank you to our fabulous MC Julie McLaren, to HOTA and BLEACH Festival for having us, and thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate. If you missed it, stay tuned for details on future screenings of the film!
