After much anticipation, here is the first look at the Olympic uniforms for skateboarding’s debut at Tokyo 2020.
Nike SB has revealed that it will be outfitting the USA, France, and Brazil skate teams in Tokyo this year. They collaborated with Dutch artist and skateboarder Piet Parra to design artwork for each of the federation’s uniforms. Each look is intended to be unique to the country’s style.
The Nike SB uniforms put sustainability at the forefront of their design. All of the skateboarding jerseys will be made from 100 percent recycled polyester and utilize Nike’s efficiency techniques to eliminate waste in the production process. That’s a win for the environment.
The uniforms for each country are intended to pay homage to its sporting history. Though the USA men’s uniform is modeled after the basketball jersey, the women’s outfit appears less influenced by that, with a colorful button-down shirt and navy chinos. For Brazil the tops take cues from the form of soccer jerseys and are paired with green leggings for the women. The French uniform takes its inspiration from tennis and includes a red jumpsuit for women. The rooster featured on the chest is a symbol of hope and faith in the country.
